Designer Spotlight

  • Meeple's Brew 9545 Chapel Hill Road Morrisville, NC, 27560 United States (map)

The Designer Spotlight event is where Meeple’s Brew invites boardgame designers to come host a play test for their games that are still in development. Each event will be featuring games from a particular designer and it’ll be free to play any of the games brought by the designers. This is your opportunity to provide feedback before these awesome games get published!

This week we’ll be featuring games from Clarence Simpson and Joel Salda!

Shaking the Tree

Shaking the Tree is a grid-less path building and area control game that won the 2019 HABA Game Design Contest and is currently a finalist for the 2020 Cardboard Edison Award. You play zoologists studying tree frogs that live deep in the rainforest. Players create a network of paths by connecting path tiles of different shapes together. As players place tiles, wooden frogs will be dropped onto the play area. Frogs are claimed by a player any time the frog touches that player’s network of paths. To win the game, you must create a path to the Mother Tree and collect as many frogs as you can along the way.

Da Vinci’s Notebook

by Clarence Simpson

DaVincisNotebook-2.jpg

In Da Vinci's Notebook, you play a team of researchers who have found Leonardo da Vinci's notebook torn to pieces and you must reassemble the sketches before time runs out. The game is an elegant cooperative card puzzle where sketches are split across 4 cards each and all cards are held in hand, some face-in, some face-out. At any given time, the value of a card is known by you or everyone else, but not both! Flip and pass cards across a mini-campaign of 10 increasingly complex and challenging levels where new abilities and rules are added every level.

Silent Siege

by Joel Salda

In Silent Siege, you and your adventuring party must delve into the Halls of Silence to defeat the monsters within before your party's stamina runs out. The only catch is that your communication will be limited. Players will roll dice, give out clues, and assign their dice towards defeating a monster. Finally, the players will see if their combined totals are enough to slay the beasts or if the monsters strike back! Gamers who love HabaniThe Mind, and dice games are sure to love this one.
